In recent years, the solar power industry in Vietnam is developing at a very fast pace. This progress brings great hope for the country’s economy and environment. Besides, Vietnam has been building hundreds of solar power plants with large capacity. Please follow the following article to discover more about this field!
What is a solar power plant?
A solar power plant or photovoltaic power plant is a project that uses solar energy to produce electricity. Currently, solar power is considered a renewable energy source and is encouraged to develop. Because this energy source does not pollute the environment.
Using solar energy not only meets human production and living needs, but also actively contributes to minimizing climate change. This is a burning problem going on globally.
Solar power plants are projects that play an important role in the economy and environment
Operating principle of solar power plant system
In general, the operating principle of a solar energy system is quite simple. First, the energy battery system will be installed on the roof, wall or other convenient locations. Sunlight will shine on the battery and change into direct current according to the photovoltaic effect.
The inverter will then convert this direct current into alternating current with the same power and frequency as the grid. Solar energy is fully charged and stored in the battery system, then directly connected to the state power grid.
At that time, we will have two parallel power sources providing electricity for production and daily life for people. This solved their previous difficulties and inconveniences.
List of typical solar power plants in Vietnam
Below we will introduce large and typical solar power plants in Vietnam:
Dau Tieng solar power plant
When mentioning the largest solar power plant in Southeast Asia, it is impossible not to mention Dau Tieng solar power plant . Because this plant has a capacity of up to 420MW and produces 690 kWh of electricity per year.
The project is implemented in Tan Chau, Tay Ninh and uses a total of 1.3 million panels with an investment of up to 9,100 billion VND. This is a cooperative project between Xuan Cau Company Limited and B. Grimm Power Public Company Limited.
On September 7, 2019, the factory was officially inaugurated and began operating. At the same time, it became the solar power project with the largest capacity and most methodical investment in Vietnam as well as Southeast Asia.
Tay Ninh solar power plant
Tay Ninh solar power plant project is also known as Dau Tieng solar power plant cluster DT1 and DT2. This is the project with the second highest capacity in Vietnam.
The project was jointly built by Xuan Cau Company Limited (Vietnam) and B. Grimm Power Public Company Limited (Thailand). After connecting to the national power grid in June 2019, the project was officially inaugurated on September 7, 2019.
The total construction area of this factory cluster is 504 hectares, with a total investment capital of more than 9,100 billion VND. It is expected that each year this cluster of factories will generate 688 million kWh to the national grid. Thanks to that, it meets the entire electricity demand of Tay Ninh province and part of the electricity demand of the southern region in general.
Phu My solar power plant
On May 29, 2020, Clean Energy Vision Development Joint Stock Company (NLS) (part of BCG Energy) started construction of Phu My solar power plant in My An and My Thang communes, Binh Dinh province. The first part of the plant was connected to the national power grid on December 31, 2020. Then, on February 28, 2021, the rest of the plant was officially energized.
Phu My power plant has a capacity of 330 MW and a total investment capital of 6,200 billion VND, construction area is 380 hectares. When put into operation, the plant is estimated to achieve an electricity output of 520 million kWh per year. Enough to provide electricity for 200,000 households and reduce 146,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
Trung Nam Thuan Bac solar power plant
The project was completed and inaugurated on October 12, 2020 in Phuoc Minh commune, Thuan Nam district, Ninh Thuan province. At the same time, it was invested by Trung Nam Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company (Trung Nam Group). Trung Nam Thuan Bac solar power plant stands out with the following parameters:
- This is the solar power project with the largest capacity in Vietnam with 450 MW.
- The total investment capital of the project is 12,000 billion VND.
- The construction area of the project is 557.09 hectares and was completed within 102 days with the participation of 8,000 workers.
- The project uses 1.4 million solar panels, more than 100,000 tons of steel and 8.5 million wires and cables.
In addition, this is also the first project with a transformer station and transmission lines invested and built by a private enterprise. With 500kV and 220kV transmission lines longer than 17 km. At the same time, it extends from Phuoc Minh commune, Ninh Thuan province to Vinh Tan commune, Binh Thuan province.
TTC solar power plant No. 01
This project was started construction by TTC Group and Gulf Energy Group (Thailand). Location at Thanh Thanh Cong industrial park, Trang Bang district, Tay Ninh province on May 25, 2018. After nearly 10 months of construction, TTC Solar Power Plant No. 01 was put into operation and officially inaugurated on June 19, 2019.
The total factory construction area is 69.5 hectares, of which 42.53 hectares are for installing solar panels. The number of solar panels used is 208,500 330 W panels. The factory’s capacity is 68.8 MWp and the total investment capital is 1,500 billion VND.
When put into operation, the plant transmitted 106 million kWh of electricity to the national grid each year, enough to supply 87,347 households and reduce CO2 emissions into the environment each year by 85.45 tons. .
CMX Renewable Energy Vietnam solar power plant
This project is invested by CMS Re Sunseap Vietnam Solar Power Joint Stock Company (part of Sunseap Group – Singapore). Location is in My Son commune, Ninh Son district, Ninh Thuan province. The groundbreaking took place on June 8, 2018 and by June 2019 the project was completed.
With a capacity of 168 MW, construction area of 168 hectares and total investment capital of 4,400 billion VND, CMX Renewable Energy Vietnam solar power plant is expected to provide enough electricity for 200,000 households.
