Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has just announced the purchase price of electricity from rooftop solar power systems in 2024. Specifically, the electricity purchase price is as follows:

  • For rooftop solar power systems that are put into operation and generate electricity and have meter readings confirmed in the period from June 1, 2017 to June 30, 2019: Electricity purchase price (excluding value added tax) in 2024 is 2,231 VND/kWh, equivalent to 9.35 UScents/kWh.
  • For rooftop solar power systems with electricity generation operations and meter readings confirmed in the period from July 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020: Electricity purchase price (excluding value added tax) in 2024 is 1,999 VND/kWh, equivalent to 8.38 UScents/kWh.

The purchase price of rooftop solar power is determined based on the following principles:

  • The electricity purchase price is calculated by the price of electricity produced from onshore solar power plants in the corresponding area, plus the cost of operating the electricity transmission and distribution system.
  • The electricity purchase price is calculated in Vietnamese Dong, equivalent to the electricity price calculated in US dollars according to the central exchange rate announced by the State Bank of Vietnam.

  • Group 2: Solar power systems with electricity generation operations and meter reading confirmation in the period from July 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020: Electricity purchase price in 2023 is 1,978 VND/ kWh, equivalent to 8.38 UScents/kWh.
